ODDS AND ENDS FOR EASTER
Heads-Up: Don’t go before you see the two short Easter videos at the end. If you’re in a rush, just skip to there first. 😎
Happy Easter Sunday. I am working on some more long posts which I am excited about: Mum’s the word for now. In the meantime I’ve had an eye out for ongoing developments in the TrendOsphere.
NEWS FROM THE ‘SWEET SIXTEEN’ SIDELINES
LSU basketball coach Kim Mulkey said Saturday that she had no interest in reading an article in The Washington Post even though she had called it a ‘hit piece,’ and threatened to sue the newspaper for defamation before it was published.
“Mulkey was the subject of a profile published Saturday in which family members and former players are quoted about her personality and how she runs her basketball program.
Her father and sister are quoted as saying they have not talked to Mulkey in years while others suggest Mulkey was uncomfortable at best with the LGTBQ+ community, including some of her own players.” (Read the full AP story here)
So what about that so called ‘hit piece’ in the Post? Was it devastating? Apparently not.
“Instead, it paints a picture of a coach whose brash manner and tendency to hold a grudge make her one of the most polarizing figures in college basketball history, and of a life devoted to the pursuit of basketball excellence that has left in its wake a series of fractured relationships.” (Read the full CNN story here)
Saturday, her team, No.3 LSU beat USLA 78-69 and will now advance to play No. 1 Iowa (32-4) in the Elite 8 inside MVP Arena on Monday night (6 p.m., ESPN) in Albany, New York, for a spot in the Final Four.
Meanwhile The Washington Post has gotten a ton of free publicity for one story.
IN DETROIT THIS EASTER, THE BUNNY LOOKS A BIT STRANGE

ONCE UPON A TIME THE WHOLE NATION SEEMED TO DRESS UP FOR EASTER. IN NEW YORK, THE EASTER PARADE STARTED IN THE 1870s. IN 1948 JUDY GARLAND AND FRED ASTAIRE IMMORTALIZED IRVIN BERLIN’S ‘EASTER PARADE.’
But hang on…. New Yorkers still do it. Easter Parade 2024 begins at 10 AM until 4pm along…yes…Fifth Avenue. Anyone can come. Here’s a preview of the sorts of bonnets might be seen this year. It’s the 2023 Parade. Judy Garland might have enjoyed it.
By the way the Rotogravure is a printing process in which an image is engraved onto a cylinder during a rotary printing process. Back in the day it made fancy pictures and was used for high end photo features. It is reportedly still used for some commercial printing of magazines, postcards and cardboard. When Fred Astaire sang ‘You’re sure to be in the Rotogravure,’ it was a reference to high society newspaper supplements and mags.
Wishing you a happy Easter Parade, even if it’s around your own block, back yard or that walk to the fridge for a cold one..
